American Whiskey Distilleries
During the 1700’s a great number of immigrants from Scotland and Ireland came to the United States seeking a better life for themselves and their families.
Determined to make a new life, settlers first arrived in Kentucky around 1767. Travelling from Pennsylvania, Virginia and the Carolinas, these early settlers were lured to Kentucky by stories of rich soil and abundant game.
They brought with them a long heritage of distilling, these settlers carried on their tradition of making whiskey in their new home
By the end of the American War of Independence (1784), the first commercial distilleries had been established in what was then the western Virginia county of Kentucky

American Micro Whiskey Distilleries
Due to the period of Prohibition in the United States most small distilleries were forced out of business, leaving only the corporate dominated mega-distilleries to resume operation when Prohibition was repealed.
The popularity of micro-distilling spirits is expanding consistently, with many micro-breweries and small wineries establishing distilleries within the scope of their brewing or winemaking operations.
