Established in 2005 by Belfast businessman Peter Lavery
A £5M investment converting “A” Wing of The Old Belfast Crumlin Road Prison that closed its doors to prisoners in 1996. In May 2012, The Belfast Distillery Company announced that it is to produce premium Irish whiskey in part of the city’s historic Gaol The company acquired the Victorian gaol from the Northern Ireland Executive and plans to develop a £5million boutique distillery, the first to be built in Belfast for 175 years.
The Belfast Distilling Company already has two main brands Danny Boy and Titanic a further brand, Jailhouse Poteen is to be introduced when the Gaol Distillery goes into production.
Danny Boy Premium Blend Irish Whiskey
A premium dark golden brown Irish whiskey blend of 20% malt and 80% finest grain, produced for the company by the Cooley Distillery, double-distilled with a four-year minimum and matured in American oak casks that infuse a toasty and vanilla aroma for an exceptionally smooth finish.
Danny Boy 15 Year Old Irish Single Malt Whiskey
Produced at the Cooley Distillery and taken from rare whiskeys carefully selected from stock set aside for its outstanding character.
Matured for a minimum of 15 years old in the finest American White oak casks, adding a fresh sweet flavour to the whiskey.
Originally released the Titanic as a 5 year old and 10 year old expressions the company has recently had to introduce a 4 year old expression due to restrictions put in place by Jim Beam (Cooley Distillery).
Following the roll out of Titanic 4 Year Old, BDC will “drip feed” a McConnell’s , 15 Year Old single malt into its established markets. Named after the last single malt whiskey to be distilled in Belfast.
