Peated Wood Finishes Tasting notes

Bottled at 46% (92 proof), at natural colour and non chill filtered.

BenRiach Single Malt Scotch Whisky
BenRiach 'Heredotus Fumosus' Tasting notes
Released in May 2007, BenRiach 'Heredotus Fumosus' is part of a range of three 12 year old heavily peated BenRiachs, originally matured in American oak and then finished either in sherry, port or dark rum wood.

In the case of 'Heredotus Fumosus', the whisky has been finished in Pedro Ximinez Sherry Butts, and the name, which is Latin, literally translates to 'smoky sherry'.

This maintains the tradition of giving the distilleries peated expressions Latin names, which started with Curiositas (10 years old) and Authenticus (21 years old), and which has become somewhat of a signature for BenRiach.

Nose: Sweet peat and smoke, clean citrus and vanilla notes with a rich backdrop of Pedro Ximinez Sherry.

Colour: Golden.

Taste: Sweet peat and smoky kippers, bog myrtle, lavender and sultanas, with a sublime Pedro Ximinez Sherry finish.

BenRiach Single Malt Scotch Whisky
BenRiach 'Importanticus Fumosus' Tasting notes

In the case of 'Importanticus Fumosus', the whisky has been finished in Aged Tawny Port Hogsheads, and the name, which is Latin, literally translates to 'smoky port'.

Nose: A big experience with peat, seaweed, vanilla and herbs complementing the rich Tawny Port presence.

Colour: Copper.

Taste: Wonderful sweet peat, bog myrtle and seaweed, with hints of vanilla, citrus and wild flowers, with a rich infusion of Port.

BenRiach Single Malt Scotch Whisky
BenRiach 'Arumaticus Fumosus' Tasting notes

In the case of 'Arumaticus Fumosus', the whisky has been finished in Jamaican Dark Rum Barrels, and the name, which is Latin, literally translates to 'smoky rum'.

Nose: Peat reek and smokies, moor herbs and heather, followed by a cascade of rum and sultanas.

Colour: Light gold.

Taste: Peat, eucalyptus, smokies, wild flowers and vanilla, with a huge infusion of sultanas and rum.

BenRiach Single Malt Scotch Whisky
BenRiach 'Maderensis Fumosus' Tasting notes

Released in July 2008, 'Maderensis Fumosus' (Latin for 'smoky Madeira') is a heavily peated BenRiach, aged 13 years old, originally matured in American oak, then finished in Henriques & Henriques Madeira wine barrels.

This is the 4th expression of BenRiach where the distillery has selected the base whisky as the peated version of BenRiach Malt and exposed it to the influence of cask finishing, following on from the 12 years old versions finished, respectively, in Pedro Ximinez Sherry casks, Aged Tawny Port casks and Jamaican Dark Rum casks.

Nose: Rich peat reek with vanilla, cocoa, spices and tropical fruits.

Colour: Lively straw gold.

Taste: An avalanche of bitter sweet peat and smoke, in harmony with citrus, butterscotch, peaches and cinnamon.
