Dufftown 15 year old single malt whisky

Dufftown Scotch Whisky Distillery History

Located on the south side of Dufftown it draws its waters from Jock’s Well in the Conval Hills.

Being named after the town itself it could be assumed that it was also the first distillery to be set up in Dufftown. However Mortlach (1824), Glenfiddich (1887), Balvenie (1892) and Convalmore (1894) were all established earlier with Glendullan following in 1898.The last distillery to be built was Pittyvaich in 1975

The Dufftown-Glenlivet Distillery Co. founded the Dufftown distillery in 1896. This was not a purpose built distillery but a conversion from an old meal mill. The following year the Dufftown distillery was acquired by MacKenzie & Co owners of the Blair Athol distillery in Pitlochry to the south

During 1933 Arthur Bell & Sons Ltd acquired the distillery with their take over of MacKenzie & Co The whisky from the distillery becoming an important component of the Bell Blends

In 1974 the number of Stills increased from 2-4 then five years later another pair were added

Arthur Bell & Sons Ltd became part of United Distillers in 1985 that merged with International Distillers and Vintners (IDV) in 1998 to form United Distillers and Vintners (UDV). UDV is owned by industry giant Diageo; Scotland's largest malt whisky producer.

The whisky produced is an important constituent of Diageo’s Bells Blends, however they have released the whisky as a single malt. The Dufftown 15 year old and have bottled it under the Flora & Fauna Label
