Founded in 1973 by Kirin Seagram Co. From a trading partnership of Kirin Beer Co.(Japan), Seagram Co. (Canada) and Chivas Brothers Ltd. (UK).
The distillery is located in a large ancient forest on the side of Mt. Fuji. The average temperature is 13C and quite often foggy. This gives a relative high humidity to the mountain air that is clean and pure. Springs on Mt. Fuji from the mountains snow melt provide the pure water and is relatively soft.
As well as producing malt whisky by pot stills there is also a grain whisky distillery, a blending and bottling facility. The malt whisky produced is mainly for blending.
The distillery has bottled some casks as limited single malt bottlings.
1993 – Fuji – Gotemba pure malt whisky is released
In 2002 The Kirin Brewery becomes the sole owner.
2004 Fuji-Gotemba 18 year old single malt whisky is released.
2005 Fuji Sanroku 18 year old single malt whisky is released
Visitors are welcome, the distillery has a visitor centre and shop.
Tour: A 50 minutes tour is available. Booking is required for a group over 10 people
