Glenmorangie Single Malt Scotch Whisky Review and Tasting Notes.


The delicate layers of flavour make it one of the most palatable single whiskies, appealing to both novices and connoisseurs alike.


Colour:- Note the bright, pale-amber hue – typical of whisky, which has been matured in bourbon casks.


Nose:- The fragrance is delicate, sophisticated and clean.  The key notes are floral, rather than cereal – perhaps mandarin and vanilla, with light hints of honey.  A leading Parisian perfume house has identified no less than 26 individual aromas in our malt, from apple and mango to cinnamon and quince.


Taste:- First note the feel of the spirit as it slides over your tongue: creamy, but not cloying; clean and slightly dry on the back of the palate; medium-bodied.  The flavour is well-balanced: no single feature dominates.


There is a subtle smokiness;  the flower and fruit scents noted earlier have changed to a delicate honey-wood, nutty flavour – some identify intriguing top-notes of fennel, spice and bergamot.  The overall effect is fresh, aromatic and refined,  and the after-taste is clean and salving.


Finish:- The finish of Glenmorangie Ten Years Old is intriguing and complex as the fruitness, creamy sweetness and almond nuttiness all come together before gently fading and leaving the drinker eager for more.

This rare Glenmorangie Malt Scotch Whisky has been matured for fifteen years in casks of American white oak, which have previously been used in the making of bourbon and come from the Ozark Mountains in Missouri.


The mature whisky is then transferred to air dried, freshly charred “new oak” for a further short period of “finishing”, which adds other unique flavours and an intriguing spiciness.


The result of this care and patience is a single malt whisky of rare distinction, with the subtle and refined characteristics of Glenmorangie all present.  


Colour:- Deep golden.


Nose:- Rich and smooth with a distinctive spicy character.  The oak notes leap out, with vanilla, walnuts and roasted coffee.


Taste:- Balanced between the dryness of oak, nuts and spices and the sweetness of vanilla, honey and chocolate.


Finish:- The finish is medium to long, with a sweet but slightly peppery aftertaste with cinnamon, coffee and chocolate.




This wonderful spirit is part of Glenmorangie’s on-going quest to create the perfect malt. Artisan Cask represents the heart of our pioneering wood management policies – founded on a passionate belief that the quality of the cask strongly influences the aroma, taste and flavour. It is this that has led us to craft a cask that is superior to any of other to mature this beautiful expression.


Colour:- Bright yellow-gold.


Nose:- Rich, sweet and spicy with lilting aromatic top notes. At full strength, the aroma is rich in toffee and crème brûlée, followed by a mixture  of spices and nuts, softened by milk chocolate. Mint humbugs and floral top notes follow revealing orangeblossom and geraniums, bringing a fragrant elegance to the aroma to complement the rich sweetness and spiciness.


With water, the sweetness becomes rich and creamy as pineapple chunks, figs andvanilla ice cream burst out from the liquid,, smothered in golden syrup with cinnamon and ground nutmeg spices dancing on the surface.


Taste :- The mouthfeel is deliciously smooth, rich and oily, full of sumptuous sweet and fruity flavours.The taste is exceptionally well-rounded and balanced. Initially vanilla emerges with mouth-watering pineapple and apricots. Later, the warm sweetness and gentle

oiliness of butterscotch and hazelnuts in toffee melt on the tongue.

This is closely followed by hints of tingly cinnamon spice and ground nutmeg,emerging with plumy fruit. Shortly after, the palate is gently cleansed by a hint of cooling mint.


Finish:- The finish is long and, paradoxically, both gently peppery and smooth with mint,

ground nutmeg and cream.




All Scotch Whisky is matured in oak casks and the nature and history of the cask greatly influences the flavour and character of the whisky.


For Glenmorangie, the best casks are those that have previously held American bourbon.  The bourbon seasons the wood, releases its natural sweetness and absorbs undesirable flavours, but does not smother the subtle flavour of the whisky.


This unique range of malt whiskies has initially been matured in American oak casks for at least 10 years and transferred into casks that have previously contained Burgundy for a further period of maturation.


The Glenmorangie Wood Finish Range is an exceptional range of malt whiskies that can be served confidently at any time, , but is best served after dinner.
