Ballantine’s History

During 1927 George Ballantine opens a grocery business in Edinburgh.

By 1869 the family business has expanded to both Glasgow and Edinburgh and George Ballantine has established himself as a blender of Scotch whisky.

George Ballantine passes away at the age of 83 in 1891.

Queen Victoria awards George Ballantine & Son their first Royal Warrant in 1895.

Ballantine’s Finest is introduced in 1910.

During 1930 Ballantine’s 17 year old and 30 year old are introduced. The first and only super-premium whiskies at the time.

1938 Ballantine’s are granted their Heraldic Arms, The Ballantine Crest by The Lord Lion, King of Arms.

Ballantine’s 12 year old was introduced in 1960.

Ballantine’s 21 year old was introduced in 1993

Ballantine joins the Pernod Ricard group.

Sandy Hyslop is appointed as Ballantine’s Master Blender becoming only the 5th Master Blender in Ballantine’s 180 year history.
