Paul John Indian Single Malt whiskies are traditionally made the finest Indian malted barley, doubled distilled in traditional copper pot stills, aged in fresh bourbon casks from Kentucky.
John Distilleries was established in 1992 by Mr Paul P. John, a first generation entrepreneur. Since then the Company has established itself as one of India's leading spirits companies with a strong portfolio of brands, leadership in key southern states and a market presence in 14 states/Union Territories across the country. The company's flagship brand, Original Choice sells more than 10 million cases annually and has established itself as the leading brand in the economy segment of the Indian Whisky market.
In addition, JDPL has successfully introduced several brands in Brandy (Mont Castle, Roulette), Whisky (Grand Duke), Wines (Big Banyan, Ampersand) and recently launched one of India's few indigenously developed single malts called Paul John Single Malt.
From the first case of Original Choice to the successful launch of its Paul John Single Malt, JDPL has always stood for offering the best quality to its customers. It is with this single minded focus and an exceptionally talented and hard working team that JDPL has been able to realize its potential.
Mr. Paul P. John is also the Chairman of the acclaimed Kumarakom Lake Resort, Kerala and the all suite luxury hotel The Paul, Bangalore. He holds degrees in Commerce and Law.
Paul John Brilliance Indian Single Malt Whisky 46%
Nose : a complex amalgam of nougat, spotted dog pudding (sans sultanas!) and orange blossom honey with the vanilla spinning tangled webs just beneath. Honey is captured as the bourbon element expands.; a delicate gristiness ushers in a freshness to the custard tart;
Taste : the mouth feel exudes star quality with the barley generating all kinds of juicy riches with the light Demerara sugars forming an elegant accompaniment. A coppery spine is soon carrying the barley in varied forms while a gorgeous cocoa sub strata heralds in the spices which buzz the taste buds at will;
Finish : beautifully relaxed: a light tingle from the spices pulses contentedly, the vanillas gather in deeper intensity yet the barley and copper stretches to the end;
Balance : yet another astonishing malt from India. 46%.
A non-peated Indian Single Malt Whisky. Matured in ex-bourbon casks.. Distilled in traditional copper pot stills in Goa, India.. Non chill-filtered. Non coloured.
Awards :Gold Medal - The Spirit Buisness - World Whiskies Masters 2013
Paul John Edited Indian Single Malt Whisky 46%
Nose : chocolate mint evolves from the delicate peats which sit beautifully with the lesser oaky theme; a comfortable, yet always complex, nose with the smoke soft and relaxed and refusing to bully the juicier barley;
Taste : grassy barley shows first, but then slowly gives way as those most gentle peat notes dissolve onto the palate and begins to build momentum and intensity. Again there is a chocolate mint/mocha theme, as well as a sublime mollassed note which injects all the sweetness required;
Finish : long, helped by to-die-for oils, some hints of spice and now some tannins, plus the vanilla. But all is beautifully weighted, patient and poised; Oh, and did I mention the chocolate mint…?
Balance : a new Indian classic: a sublime malt from the subcontinent. To be more precise: a world classic! Think of Ardmore at its most alluring: one of Scotland’s finest and most complex single malts, yet somehow possessing a saltiness and depth more befitting Islay. Then stir in a small degree of Ulmo honey and bourbon-style hickory and liquorice. Plus subtle chocolate mint. And there you have it…the smoke drifting around stirring up spicy tales of the east. A world class whisky to be talked about with reverence without doubt.
