Hand Crafted in traditional Pot Stills Prichards’ Distillery has been distilling spirits since 2000.
These quality spirits are a recreation of America’s first distilled beverages. The rums are made from sweet American molasses from the plantations of Louisiana and their whiskies are very similar in style to those produced by Benjamin Prichard in Davidson County, Tennessee way back in the early 1800’s.
Distilled in traditional copper pot stills using the techniques of the master distillers of an older time, Prichards’ American Spirits are most certainly, nothing like the commercially spirits that are mass produced today.
Five generations ago, when Granddaddy Benjamin Prichard of Davidson County, Tennessee passed his “still, tubs and utensils thereto” to his son Enoch, his will of 1822 provided documentation of the last known “legal” distiller in the Prichard Family. Ben made his whiskey with a high sugar content white corn, pure Tennessee spring water and it was distilled using ancient pot still techniques.
Prichard’s Distillery is a joint venture “of a whole lot of folks” who wanted to take their place in recreating that piece history; when it became the first legal distillery in Tennessee for almost fifty years. They started the company in the fall of 1997 but it took almost two years to sufficiently capitalize the company to commence operations in 2000.
Currently distilling six whiskey products; bourbon styled Tennessee Whiskey, a hearty Rye Whiskey and a Single Malt Whiskey of Irish tradition, all now aging in their warehouses.
They also produce the Award Winning, Benjamin Prichard’s Double Barrel Bourbon and a bourbon based liqueur; called “Sweet Lucy.”
The newest addition is a white corn whiskey; Lincoln County Lightning has proven to be a real favourite among bartenders and mixologists.
Tennessee Whiskey
Benjamin Prichard’s Tennessee Whiskey (80 Proof)
In celebration of over ten years of operation, Prichard’s Distillery is pleased to announce the release of this fine ten year old whiskey, distilled in the style of the traditional Tennessee whiskeys.
Original Tennessee whiskey made during the Civil War was distilled from white corn using a pot still. This Tennessee Whiskey is made using similar pot still production techniques, like Granddaddy Benjamin used back in the early 1800’s. The white corn is milled by the historic Falls Mill in nearby Old Salem, Tennessee. The resulting smooth whiskey is full of rich, bold character.
Benjamin Prichard's Single Malt Whiskey (80 Proof)
Steeped in Celtic origins, Benjamin Prichard’s Single Malt whisky is distilled according to true Irish traditions; its rich malt flavours truly reflecting the character of the finest single malt whiskies. Distilled in traditional copper pot stills and aged in small, fifteen gallon barrels.
Benjamin Prichard’s Double Barreled Bourbon (90 Proof) (Limited Offering)
This bourbon is created using a unique, labour intensive and expensive process. Bourbon is traditionally barreled off the still at a relatively high 125 proof. However, the final bottle proof may be as low as 80. The addition of water at the bottling stage dilutes flavour.
This bourbon is taken from the initial 120 proof to 95 proof then re-barrelled in new charred oak barrels to reinforce the barrel notes that bourbon is so famous for. To the company’s knowledge there is no other distillery that utilizes this Double Barrelling process.
Benjamin Prichard’s Double Barrelled Bourbon is truly special as Jim Murray 2009 Whiskey Bible provides the following:
“A classy effortless delivery. The corn-rye integration oozes sophistication and the vanilla-themed oak offers the perfect background. Immediate bitter sweet character celebrates both a raisin-fruity juiciness and a much firmer, burned-honeycombed middle; complex, classy and challenging; thuddingly firm with limited yield. Spices from the rye try to probe the wall but this is the metalled hoof a Kentucky thoroughbred; a very different bourbon that ticks the boxes as they should but throws in a few curve balls for the palate to negotiate.”
Lincoln County Lightning (90 Proof)
At one of the first public tastings of Lincoln County Lightning, a little ole lady gleefully described the taste of her first sip, “It’s just like cornbread in a bottle...with a kick.”
There’s no denying the wonderful sweet flavour of nature’s own white corn as an integral part of the mash bill for Lincoln County Lightning. Benjamin Prichard’s Lincoln County Lightning is a straight out of the still white lightning and a wonderful flavour of white corn straight off the cob. Bold yet surprisingly mellow, Ben will be sure to take his place as an intriguing new flavour to add to a variety of new cocktails.
Sweet Lucy Bourbon Liqueur (70 Proof)
Sweet Lucy’s legacy has been flowing up and down the Mississippi flyway for years, warming the bodies and souls of outdoorsman for generations. Born in a duck blind and a frequent companion on duck hunts, variations of Sweet Lucy were generally homemade elixirs of peaches, oranges and apricots with lots of sugar and whiskey. Great pride would often be displayed by its maker as the bottle made its rounds for a sip among friends.
Although you may no longer find these same homemade remedies for the chill of a cold winter morning in a duck blind, Prichards Distillery, Inc. has captured the essence of the original Sweet Lucy.
Benjamin Prichard’s Sweet Lucy is an officially licensed product of Ducks Unlimited, Inc.
