Built between 1898 and 1900 by a partnership of William Simpson, a former manager of Glenfarclas, and James Carle, the local agent for the North of Scotland Bank.
Brothers James and John Grant, who were attracted to the location by the plentiful supply of spring water from the Caperdonich Well on the hillside above, founded the distillery in 1840.
Chivas Brothers, who also owned the existing Strathisla distillery nearby, built Glen Keith in 1957-1960 on the site of a corn mill.
The two whisky entrepreneurs John Mackinlays and John Birnie founded Glen Mhor Distillery in 1892. The first whisky was distilled in December 1894.
Glen Moray originally started as a brewery, (Henry Arnott & Co) which was converted into a whisky distillery in 1897 by the Glen Moray Glenlivet Distillery Co.
James Stuart a local corn merchant with distilling interests in the Macallan distillery at Craigellachie established the Glen Spey distillery in 1885.
Built in 1967 by Mackinlay & McPherson Ltd who were part of Scottish & Newcastle Breweries at the time for their Mackinlay blends.

From the archives it apears that the construction of the distillery was in 1829, when William Paul started whisky distilation.
Glencraig Single Malt Scotch Whisky
During 1958 two Lomond pattern stills where added. These stills, known as Glencraig, allowed the distillery to produce two different whiskies.
A James Allardes and a consortium of farmers and businessmen founded the distillery in 1826.
Glendullan was established in 1897-98 and was the last of the seven distilleries to be built around Dufftown in the 1890s distillery-building boom.
Glenfarclas means "Valley of the green grass" in Gaelic. The distillery has been under same independent family ownership since 1865
In September 1886, after 20 years of saving from his annual salary of £100, William Grant could finally realise his dream of creating “the best dram in the valley”.
The Glenglassaugh Distillery was built in 1874, located on Craig mills farm, Portsoy, Aberdeenshire, by James Moir, a local wine and spirit merchant.
George Smith, already an established illegal distiller was encouraged by the Duke to take out a license and became the first to apply for a new licence in 1824. This year is taken as being the official foundation date of the distillery that became known as “The Glenlivet”.
John Duff had previously been manager at Glendronach Distillery Alexander Grigor Allen, a lawyer, and H Mackay, a surveyor,
In 1876 they formed John Duff & Co, and built the Glenlossie distillery.
William Grant, John Cruickshank and Robert Dick formed William Grant & Co, and continued with the construction of the new Glenrothes distillery and in May 1879, the Glenrothes Distillery went into production.
Established in 1898 by James Buchanan and in association with his Glaswegian whisky broker WP Lowerie, to secure a supply of malt whisky for principally their Black & White Blends.
