Woodstone Creek

Woodstone Creek is Ohio's first licensed micro-distillery.

A micro-distillery, or boutique distillery, manufactures less than 500 barrels of spirit per year. These small distilleries are becoming the newest growth segment in the specialty spirits industry across the country.

Ohio's first micro-distillery is a Cincinnati family business. Don Outterson and his wife, Linda, have been working quietly at their production facility in Evanston.

In 2001, Don added a custom designed potstill to their urban winery, Woodstone Creek, to become the first ever such licensed operation in Ohio. Don Carries out the distilling and winemaking. Wife, Linda, runs the tasting room, designs labels and the website. Both do whatever it takes to keep the operation going without employees.

Woodstone Creek uses a direct-fired "pot still" which concentrates flavour - as opposed to "column" distillation, which neutralizes flavour. The distillery also uses the finest ingredients. And, when they say SINGLE BARREL - that's exactly what they mean. Each barrel is made and bottled individually - not blended with other barrels.

Most of their spirits are in the aging phase. The labels are featured here. The Bourbon, is from their own five-grain recipe, and the Malt Whisky labels will be numbered by hand.

The distillery use malted grains from the distiller's ancestral home - Berwick Upon Tweed - for their single malt whisky

Don started his distillation enterprise making 5-grain bourbon and single malt whisky, which will age while other products make their debut. Other planned products include blended whisky, dark rum, gin and a distilled beer specialty product.

The vodka began distribution to Cincinnati state stores this past October (2006). The pair needed the vodka to produce income because the bourbon and whisky will take several more years to mature.

Woodstone Creek Vodka entered the Ohio market in October of 2006 and Kentucky and Indiana shortly thereafter. The five-grain bourbon debuted at Kentucky's Party Source on August 21 (2007) to rave reviews. It is not yet available in Ohio
